Atherton has a new and famous resident! Steph Curry and his family have relocated from the East Bay to Atherton. In September of 2019 the Curry’s purchased their new home for $31 million. Additionally, the family purchased a new Condo in San Francisco for $8 million earlier this year.
Notable Atherton Residents
Atherton is known for having one of the most sought after zip codes in the country. 94027 was named by business insider as the most expensive zip code in the United States, 2019. This is up a whopping 43% from just two years prior. Some other famous residents are Jerry Rice, former 49er’s receiver and Tom Prouix, co founder of Intuit. Some former residents are Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook and Eric Schmidt of Google.
Quiet, Secluded and Private –
Homes in Atherton that are along busier thoroughfares can sometimes be seen from the street. Looking through a gate or just over a wall, offers a glimpse into the opulence. The city strictly regulates its zoning, and the fact that nearly 100% of the city is residential, making it very private. A majority of streets do not have sidewalks, showcasing a rural feel when walking through the town. Current market stats in Atherton are following a slight buyers advantage. The median list price has tapered down to $6,870,000. Price per square foot has lowered slightly to $1,730. Days on market has also gone down to 112 days. Inventory has risen, currently at 38 units. The most expensive home listed, is on market for $23,850,000. And the least expensive home is listed for $2,198,000. If the inventory continues to grow relative to the small amounts of demand for Atherton homes, prices should continue to go down. Looking at the past statistics for the Atherton real estate market shows that in mid July 2019 the median list price was over $9,300,000. Illustrating the significant drop in prices that the luxury market has experienced since that timeframe.
